Trendnet trendnet tew-658brm and dropping internet speed

Hey guys.

I have a trendnet tew-658brm, a 4meg adsl line and both Mweb and Openweb (Gamer King?) as ISP's.

My internet speed has been randomly dropping at times, I'm talking like 0.2 Mb/s download speed. At first it helped to reboot the router. But it has been happening more and more. It will be fine and suddenly drop way down, I reboot and it's fine again for like an hour, then it drops again. I made sure it wasn't throttling by switching between ISPs

Now when I reboot the router, from the maintenance menu, it wont make a connection, gets the red internet light. So I have to keep rebooting it. That worked for a while but now when I do that, it wont even let me sign in to the router, with the IP. I have to hard reset it at the back. Then re-enter all my details.

Is my cheapo router busted or what? has this happened to anyone else?

i had the same problem with mine,it will get worse and worse

i bought a tp link,and never had that problem again

trendnet,stay away

also wasted R600 on it

its a common problem with trendnet

Have to agree that trendNet modems are pathetic.

I have the same model, but have the latest firmware installed. You should also verify if Telkom on working on your exchange/DSLAM and perform other network diagnostics

What other diagnostics would you recommend? I'll check with Telkom but phoning them is almost last resort.

I too had that same exact modems with the same exact problem. It is really a piece of junk. The day I bought a netgear all my problems disappeared.

Farkit, that is what I thought. Guess this is coming out of my PS4 savings
