Trevor Manuel Quits

He will continue to be a member of both the ANC and the government. He has declined a position in the NEC, that's all, not the ANC or government.

I think that flew over blu's head even though it's been posted at least once above.

But the stage is set to exit after the next elections.

Let's face it the his ministry was setup as a way of appeasing investors at the time. Prahvin is firmly entrenched with investors now and Trevor is an after thought.

I'll be surprised if after the next elections the Planning Commission and the Economic Development ministries are not merged with Manuel going off to pursue other interests.

It is certain Manuel won't return to government. The alliance members don't like his planning commission because for example COSATU feel it is shadowing and setting policy that ought to be set by their man at economic development. And the ANC's pursuit of populist policy (which pleases COSATU) means even the NDP will not ever get implemented. Zuma completely ignored the well thought ought plan in favor of the "second phase of the transition" because that ensured his survival and support he needs to get reelected today

It would be cool if he moved to the DA, I think he could pull some voters.

Well Cyril was part of the planning commission that came up with what was submitted. He may well drive it.

Judging by Zuma's speech and him urging delegates to adopt the National development Plan, Manuel is leaving with his pet project about to become policy. Not a bad way to go.

It would be a major coup if a corporate was able to convince him in joining their Boards!

Its a speech, Zuma has a very very good track record of saying something and nothing ever happening about it.

What would Manuel's end goal be politically by joining the DA? If he is an ambitious man he would want the presidency or vice at least. And it is unlikely that the DA would offer that in the next 2 elections at least.

He is not black so he will NEVER get it as long as he is a member of the ANC.

Apparently no-one notified the JSE as it has thoroughly failed to backlash.

Well, DA leader Helen Zille was prepared to stand down in 2010 in favour of Trevor Manuel, if he had defected to the DA, so who knows what they've offered him...

DA leader Helen Zille was prepared to stand down last year in favour of Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel if he had defected to the opposition party, but he failed to react to the DA’s advances to him, according to a WikiLeaks cable.
...
In one of them, dated February last year, Trollip is reflected telling Gips that he believed “Manuel, who is the best mind in the ANC, is not happy in the party and noted that the current leader of the DA, Helen Zille, would give Manuel the DA party leadership if Manuel were to jump ship”.

It did not fly over my head. I just happen to have more information than is out there in the public domain.

LOL :p

Dude, you could be Malema's spokesman.
Your claim to 'more information than is out there in the public domain' is hogwash.

TM will not now or in any foreseeable future join the DA.
