Tried and tested Modems

Im just curious as to what modems people have tried and tested with their 3g/HSDPA connections. I know there are alot of people who use the contract modems that vodacom offer but I recently met someone who uses one he bought from Poynting which is mounted externally and connects via ethernet.

On a different note, what does the average vodacom community "ping" look like from speed.vodacom.co.za
I average on 140ms

I use an E220 on one PC and the built in 7.2mbps on my Acer Aspire 3G netbook. Download speeds are pretty much the same - but the Acer uploads quicker. I personally don't believe in the latest, greatest modem because I don't think many people see the 7.2, 14.4 or 21 that Vodacom ups us to.

Average ping is 140ms as well (according to VC speedtest) _ but I've seen 80ms once!
