I'm heading off to Dubai at the end of the month for a week. The big question... what do I take body and lens wise

well lit places yes. sometimes the damn flash doesnt auto trigger in low light. when you have a little one the moment is lost.

As far as lenses go, I'll be taking the 24-105, 8mm CF, 10-20mm and my 40mm pancake. Flash and tripod as well as battery chargers etc...

that would be the 1D MK II, although all three of them have been through 2 colour festivals and are still going strong. The all have their pros and cons, I guess it's weigh up what I want to do... most of it will be landscape, architectural shots so I guess the 1D could do the job as I will be using mostly manual. and then weigh up the weight of the equipment, as I need to leave space to bring some bits back.koffiejunkie

Maybe I should have said "sand proof" rather than dust proof. I've not had camera damage, but my 50mm f/1.4 took some sand in, and Canon had to replace just about everything except for the lens mount, glass and focus ring

If you can, then go. It's not that pricey. Under 1k for a ticket.
