Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you photography wizards can help a noob out

I want to get a tripod that can do top-down "flat style" product shots (With one of those horizontal arms) and that has a clip/ head so I can use an iPhone 6s plus. I do have a DSLR so the iPhone clip is not essential but preferred.

Does anyone know of a relatively cheapish tripod/ iPhone head combo that I can get that will be good for this?

Thanks a mill

P.S. I need all the shots to be the exact same distance etc so standing above the stuff and taking photos failed miserably

Will something like this work for you?

It's only a phone mount though.

Thanks for the suggestion man!

I'm not sure if that'll work and how ill set it up,

Here's another suggestion I received,

Manfrotto 190 Go Aluminum 4-Sec (Because it can tilt 90 degrees)

and the Manfrotto Klyp+ iPhone case

I know the Manfrotto 190 Go Aluminum 4-Sec doesn't come with a head so I was wondering if the screw in port on the klyp+ case will be able to screw in on the Manfrotto 190 Go Aluminum 4-Sec without any attachments.

I got myself the Manfrotto 190 3-section the other day. It's amazing to say the least. I got the bigger one seeing as how I have a long lens that I would like to keep stable on the tripod.

Not sure how you'd mount a phone on it though.

I usually use one of these - made by Joby:

Don't forget (I usually do) that you can trigger it using the remote on the headphones.

Ahh, I haven't seen that, thanks for the tip (Especially the headphone one, I didn't know that), I ended going for something very similar - Manfrotto universal clip

Thanks man, my 190 Go should be delivered tomorrow, pretty excited :)

Yeah - that looks like it will work.

I had to do a whole bunch of product sample shots recently. :o I don't really have a tripod so I used light stands and a tent pole :D

Looks good! Makes me think I've wasted some cash on my tripod :crylaugh:

A decent tripod is rarely a waste... as long as you're going to use it for other things.

Me... I don't have a decent tripod so I'd have probably done something like this with a cheap clamp.

I was going to buy a tripod recently but ended up walking out of the shop with a camera bag instead :o

Looks good though! When you shoot with your iPhone, do you use the normal camera? And do you do any post processing with Photoshop or lightroom etc?

Usually if I take a photo with my phone it stays on the phone so I just use what the camera software. If I'm doing product photography with any camera though I'll import it into Aperture (just my personal preference) and then I can batch process (crop, straighten, colour correct, etc) all of them in one go. That saves a lot of time.

I'll post a pic later of the rig I cobbled together for a soccer match tonight... if it works :)
