The woman stabbed to death on Auckland's North Shore has been named as 42-year-old Heidi Welman Scott.
Ms Scott was the former partner of Brent Scott, the 45-year-old man suspected of stabbing her and two other adults.
The other two victims have been identified as Ms Scott's 22-year-old daughter and her 22-year-old boyfriend.
Police launched a manhunt and several schools were put into lockdown as a precaution after the incident in Mahoney Drive, Albany.
Mr Scott was then caught at Auckland International Airport after police were alerted by customs. An alert had been put out to stop him leaving the country.
It's understood he was trying to flee to South Africa. A friend had driven him to the airport, and that friend is now being questioned by police.
