Hi guys

I got a Trojan yesterday, now this trojan comes with some kind of addware.

What it does is:

1. It Downloads more Trojans from a trojan called (Trojandownloader)
2. The addware makes my Explorer give me an error: The site your about to view is unsave. It gives you 2 options,

. Continue to unsave website - doesn't work
. Update security and continue - Works but goes to some dodgy Antivirus website which want's to sell me antivirus software.

I ran PC Tools from the google pack. It removes it and then it's clean. The moment I restart my PC and connect to the next I have 70 infections again :(

I have no idea how to get rid of this appart from re-installing Windows :(

can anyone help ?

Hijackthis is nice to identify any new additions since the last saved system structure.

I've read about Hijackthis. But afaik it doesn't apply the fix, it gives a log and then I need to do it manually :eek:

Smitfraudfix ? Never heard of it, will it do what I need ?

Thanx Uno I have been struggeling the whole day yesterday. All because I needed to download a Patch for CSI Miami as my wife wanted to play it. Since then my machine is fk'd :o

I use Hijackthis to check what was added to my PC since the last check and save of all logged items. It makes it esier to identify malware. The smithfraud and conbofix helped me a few times to get rid of bad Trojans. It is not always easy. The Hijack this member sites is guys that is prepared to assist to remove any crap you may think is OK. I never used them yet but by reading their posts and repairs and using what they specify saved me many hours and headaches.

I, my kids download a lot of cr@p and as such pick up these baddies but I always manage to clear the shiite with

Hijackthis
Smithfraud
Conbofix
AVG free
Superantispyware
Adaware
and a few others only when and if required, like Lillbox.exe when there is services and DLL's that just cannot normally be killed like in your case, you have to know which files to kill tho.

First step is to identify the biatch causing the problem.

The Hijackthis log is posted on their site site http://www.hijackthis.de/ and they will analyze and show out nasties in seconds. It is wort it using it. Try it it is save and works well.

Will give it a bash.

My Brother in law just e-mailed me and he has windows XP and some keys still from his business. I'll try my best and if it fails I'll just wipe the drive and go back to XP :)
 
Anyway.

Uno, I'm just scared that the trojan could still be on the HDD if I wipe it and install XP. Or am I just being paranoid ?

Nope, Format will kill all but that is not always the solution. Problem is that you will have to redo all updates and system reloads again. I prefer to remove to Trojan and patch or beef the system up.

Format will wipe all goggas. But as soon as you get back on the Inet it does not mean you will not pick up another virus.

Been threatening to change back to XP since I got Vista. Now I have an excuse to do it :)
