I have a Telkom 4096 3GB line, and its not really working out that well. Unfortunately its a 24 month contract which has still got a long way to go. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to get a second ISP that has a 30GB Local only option like Open web's option. But now I have the following to ask anyone out there:

1. is the Openweb 30GB Local Only (R130p/m) a good option.
2. does the Openweb 30GB Local Only provide access to services like the SAIX news server and would it allow me to play games on the SAIX gaming server?
3. What speed is the Openweb 30GB Local Only?
4. Is it a good overall quality option?

Thanks to anyone who would help me.

1 - Openweb / Webafrica 30GB Local only accounts are a good option for downloading stuff locally yes (cheaper than SAIX).
2 - These are IS accounts, you will be able to access to SAIX gaming servers, but not the SAIX newsserver.
3 - It works on any speed line. Downloading anything that is local, downloads at about Max line speeds (depending on server load).
4 - IS is not very popular the past couple of months, so I would rate it as fair quality service.

Maybe get a 10GB account first to see if this will fit your needs, then if its not enough, just upgrade to the 30GB account.

slower than when you say neotel is REAL when using IS's newserver ;)-

i would beg to ask wtf are you going to do with that 30G's local anyways apart from some shady downloading

Yeah. The IS News Server has been a bit... Eccentric lately. But still not bad if you can net some cached stuff. The SAIX news server is supposedly more reliable, but SAIX local bandwidth is roughly double the price of IS. :(

Sadly, no access to the SAIX news server. No problems accessing any other SAIX services, though. Bare in mind that a lot of games these days call-back to an international server for online gaming, though... Battlefield, and all the Steam games.

What speed is the Openweb 30GB Local Only?

Line speed. Cached content on the IS news server should go at maximum line speed. Uncached content speed is atrocious, but eventually the popular stuff will get cached if everyone helps.

4. Is it a good overall quality option?

Best value for money, IMO. SAIX local is still too expensive.

No one's obliged to answer this.

Although I actually blew a hell of a lot on the SAIX ftp getting all the huge demos that have come out recently.
