My days of coming to this forum and running ISPs down are over.

Today I had a trouble free day with Skype, downloads, surfing etc etc

Guess who I joined as from today.

Yes, unfortunately was Telkom.

@HellTel, I got a bit sea-sick for your ISP hopping the last couple of months. Can you list who they were?

EDIT: My test Telkom 3GB account has been "capped" permanently since November 2005. I've been paying for it every month but I've not been able to use it one bit. Logged 2 faults with references and still no luck.

Give us your rundowns on the Telkom account during the month, would have to be the same as with any other saix account :)

It does not matter who they were, keyword here being "were".

No, it was not Sentech or iBurst.

I play a game online (International) and although the ping was acceptable with other ISPs I use to experience lag, today no lag at all and no disconnections from Skype.

What does Telkom know that ISPs don't?

Go figure.

Please elaborate.

Did Telkom add the used bandwidth minus the 3Gb to the next month because you hammered those accounts so much?

The account that I've used here https://dotco.net/allyoucaneat/kb/index.php?ToDo=view&questId=24&catId=6 has not been working since the end of November 2005. I've been paying for the account and have logged faults.

Reasons for the account not working ranged from (1) your computer has been compromised, (2) you sent spam, (3) "i know nothing", (4) you've been capped.

Today Telkom (after I called them and insisting that they do SOMETHING) gave me the use of another account.

I am currently on SAOLs 10gig account. But am thinking of moving to Telkom and then using WebAfrica prepaid once I get capped. Well thats the plan anyways.

I just love all these hardcore traitors on myadsl :).

The first and the loudest to bitch and moan about Ivy and Telkom but instead of supporting the independent ISP's they are the first in line to suck from the Telkom hind tit because of their "pseudo" 3GB accounts.

So next time people bitch and moan about the state of broadband in S.A on this forum I am going to ask them to state which ISP they use.

It's obvious to me that telkom is screwing over all other ISPs so that the customers will move to telkom. once telkom has enough customers they will simply enforce the 3GB hard capping and then do something absurd like tell everyone that they need to give 6 months notice before cancelling their accounts or telling them they have to pay for all the downloading they've done over the 3GB cap from the past months.

I'll go for any other ISP any day

It is a pity that Telkom has come so far in terms of phycological manipulation that they are able to persuade "hardcore" internet users that they are the ISP of choice. It would be very hard for Telkom to offer less than other private ISP's, since they are holding the pot. Of course we ADSL users know that, and know that the privateers are struggling, so yes, go and support Telkom, and give them more power, and carry on being hyper-critical towards any small ISP without Telkom's resources.

This trend is obviously where users want to be, and, of course, everyone has freedom of choice, but then don't bite the hand that feeds you...

I joined SAOL in December, I was with WebAfrica prior to December, the only thing that made me move was price.

I always experienced connectivity problems with SAOL, I had to try up to 13 times most days but, I lived with it and never complained on this forum about SAOL, on the contrary, I praised SAOL on numerous occasions.

The service offered by SAOL started to deteriorate and after exchanging e mails with technical support I was told that it was either my router, (I have a USB Pots Modem) or my line, I argued the point and was told to have my line and my modem checked.

Tests were done on the line and had my modem checked, the tests and my modem were fine but the problems still persisted. (it was suggested that I had been moved to IPC because of my abuse, (7.5 GIGs of a 10 gig account total for the month) the suggestion was not made by SAOL but by a "forumite")

I asked for a test account from Telkom and didn't experienced any problems.

I called technical support (SAOL) and was told the same thing, it was either my line or my router (once again I told them that I had a USB modem but, it had to be my line or my "router")

So I went a step further, I got a prepaid account from WebAfrica to put my mind at ease.

Guess what? It worked just fine.

The deterioration of service plus the sudden increase in price from SAOL made me make up my mind and move.

Am I biting the hand that feeds me or is SAOL shooting themselves on the foot?

This thread was dead, why revive it Marko?

According to me (the thread starter) this thread is now closed.
