Hi all, I'm new here, hope everyone's having a blast.
I'm having trouble starting my son's uno. We replaced the valves after discovering that two of them were bent. Replaced the belts and set the timing according to the Haynes workshop manual. Still I have no joy.
Is there anyone out there who could give me some step by step advice. I've always worked on my own cars and never had these challanges.
Please help. I'm so frustrated.

With all due respect, Unos are not famed for their reliability. You're frustrated already, so maybe it's time to cut your losses and move on.

My mother had an Uno, until it set itself alight somehow (must have been some fuel leak) and that was the end of that. Luckily my mother was ok.

So, your step-by-step advice:
1: Sell Uno for parts
2: Put deposit down on any one of the other great 'starter car' specials you get these days

Your son's safety is worth it, if he's in an accident, trust me.

Start with the basics. Do you have fuel and spark? Assuming yes, then you need to check again that you've got the timing belt on correctly. It might be out 180 degrees? Take the spark plugs out and turn the crank by hand till the compression stroke on no1 cylinder, and confirm that the spark is at top dead centre and not bottom. The distributor might have been put in 180 degrees out too, especially if the head's been off.

I could tell you a cool way to check for spark .... but my mother in law isnt around to stick her little finger in the plug cap.
