Is anybody else having trouble connecting to the internet via MTN today? It connects but no data arrives.

Yeah. I have been having the same problem. Started Yesterday afternoon. I redownloaded the settings via *123# - i can now surf wap sites, and some websites via Opera (Nokia 6680) - but Thunderhawk wont connect - and i cant access email either. There was alos a similar problem last week sometime when it kept asking for a proxy server. So who knows who is tinkering with MTN's server settings??

Hi Paul

It looks like it is a local problem. I am in Simonstown. I usually connect to the Muizenberg cell.

Have you ever tried EDGE in the area?

I have sent you a PM.

I've been basically out of action for about 36 hours now. A couple calls to 808 reveal that there is some big problem with GPRS and I dunno if it's *everyplace*, but it certainly seems to being reported from all over (C/Town, PE, Durbs...).

I can now get on the web if I use the WAP proxy.

I wonder what the problem is -- this is kind of disturbing.

Our users are also experiencing this problem, many mtn users can't log-in... any news from mtn yet?

Yeh right!! News from MTN - what u been smoking? :D

They cannot even keep up a presence on this forum and you expect them to give you some news. Good luck!!!

I have this problem when I try and connect from my house in Benoni. When I connect at work in Parktown, everything is fine. I took some stats, so if anyone knows anyone at MTN maybe the info would help.

This is MTN GPRS in the East of Pretoria today. (13:45 - 14:15)

Ping statistics for 196.11.240.60:
Packets: Sent = 900, Received = 598, Lost = 302 (33% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 309ms, Maximum = 4358ms, Average = 1163ms
Control-C
^C

The high packet loss makes this connection unusable - never mind the whole 3kbps I could get from time to time.

I've just tested EDGE from here at work, and it seems to be ok. But
if I get home and find that GPRS in Mtunzini is broken, I'm going to
scream.

I've brought this up before, but lets try it here. I get an error from time to time saying "Invalid Data Access Point". If I leave it for a while it will eventually let me connect, but sometimes this lasts hours. Any ideas anyone?

I've also had problems connecting in the last few days. Sometimes does, sometimes doesn't.
Also today in Van Rhynsdorp using the Klawer tower I get a full 9.5 kbps on the Telkom local http test. Tried to stream some radio but it kept buffering every 30 secs. :(
No problems on Vodacom.

@ Sparky_za, I've seen something similar with some of our users, using certian Nokia phones... here is what's worked to fix it.

For Nokia 6230i (and others like the 6020, and 8800 to name a few) you would have to do the following :
Select:
1 - Menu
2 - Settings
3 - Configuration
steps 4-8 are only needed if no access point is defined
4 - Personal configuration settings
5 - Add New
6 - Access point
7 - Back
8 - Back
9 - Preferred access point
10 - <Select the new internet access point

I think the connection falls back to http after a while, that's why it connects eventually.

I am by no means an expert on this... so if it doesn't work...

Mtn GPRS down in Durban North again....aaaahhhhgggg.....starting to drive me nuts....wish these guys would sort there problems out......having to resort to using cell c...

Thanks for the info MXit Team, unfortunately doesn't help me out because I only have 1 access point defined. It looks like it's just one of those weird problems that's going to harrass me till the end of time

Still a problem??

Hey, not sure if anyone else is still having problems, but my connection is absolutely rubbish. Time-outs all over the place. Seems it just stops receiving data. But the weird thing is, if I use the browser on my phone, no such problems.

Still intermittant

12:30pm Saturday and the service is not stable yet. GPRS and EDGE in East London. It seems there is a peering problem.. Some local .co.za sites are a problem including mybroadband, but Google.co.za never fails. I have also had some legit email addresses fail with "host not found" including emails to telkom.co.za (using mail.mtn.co.za for SMTP)
