Troubleshooting my car sound system

Hi,

I have just installed in my car an amplifier (monoblock) and a subwoofer.

A few days ago I installed an aftermarket head unit (targa tdd 701mp5) I regret getting the cheaper option because no I’m running into issues.

The amp and subwoofer are wired and powered correctly I used a multi-meter to test them leaving me with the conclusion that the issue lies with the head unit.

The head unit is not sending any signal through the RCA to the amp, and I suspect it could be one of a number of things:

1. The head unit’s RCA output does not work.
2. The car (Toyota etios) only has front speakers so the wiring is only for the front speakers. Maybe therein lies the problem.
3. The head unit is not on the correct setting to push signal through the RCA output (there are no settings on the device hence my frustration with myself for getting the cheaper option).


Does anyone know what the issue could be and how I could try and solve it?

Also I have a line output converter as a last resort, maybe I could connect it to my aftermarket ISO harness which would’ve gone to the rear speakers and then plug the RCA cables into the converter like that ?
 
Wait, reading the hole post now, did you spend more on the sound system than the car is worth? Who does this? I assume your aspiration is a SUV that does 0-100 in 7 seconds or less?

what did you use from front to back for rca cable , go buy a cheap 5 metre cable and run it over the seats to the amp to test it from the radio .also some radio rca outputs are only for a sub control and may be turned off in the settings ie bass boost , set amp on 500mv and see .set bass on about 400hz, no lower for now .

Sure.

Beggars belief that someone wants to jack an etios in this way. Save your money and buy more car that does what you want from the get go.

Or, as a last resort, spend R500 on some reasonably decent headphones and be done with it.

Car is worth 200k and system is worth around 5k only

i actually did that this afternoon, I have a brand new RCA that is hanging over the seats.

So I have the RCA plugged into the HU but nothing comes out. So the stock speakers are still playing perfectly fine it’s just the sub that’s not playing

unplug the rca and touch your tongue on the ones plugs going to the amp if it hums its ok if nothing it could the amp is the amp turning on with the remote cable

It hums in fact when you touch the tip of the wire the sub makes a sound. So I suspect there’s nothing wrong with the amp and the sub.
 
also turn yhe radio on put it loud and test the voltage on the cable plugs at the amp you should get around 500mv at the head unit as well
