Truck drivers striking

Hey guys just a quick thing, this morning i am driving to my office in Alrode/alberton on the corner of Potgieter and bentonite st their is some guys striking about the whole trucking situation. And they started throwing stones at cars and trucks passing by. So be carefull if you work in that area. One truck actually got thrown and bumped into another car and they took the driver out and hit him quite badly cause he doesnt want to strike with them.

I thought they were striking yesterday ;/ Wonder if they will strike tomorrow as well
 
These guys are getting paid an average salary of R4K and they are demanding at least R6K. They have valid points here as they are professional drivers (legal code 14s and valid PDPs). My Dad is a semi-retired trucker and he has told me how abusive the industry is.

White and some -coloured drivers get at least R20K for the same work, same routes - not to mention about R5K worth of allowances.

Agree with them getting wage increases, 4K is just simply DISGUSTING! How are people with families supposed to live on R4K?

But your statement about white people getting more salaries, etc. was unnecessary rather just comment on the facts.

Well than all I was saying is R4k is a terribly low salary to live on, google abit for truck driver positions and you will see R4k is way below par in even South Africa.

Never said I agree with them striking or with the way in which they go about it, just that R4k is terribly low for the current economic climate. [Before I get jumped on.]

I agree, R4k is a pathetic salary, but you know what you're going to earn when you apply for the job. The problems start when things get more expensive, and salaries stay the same. But the transport companies can hardly be blamed for this. I don't see administrative clerks in violent strikes.

Buuuut, on the other hand, if you have been earning the same salary for 3 years, we have a problem.

Agreed, but when you apply for a job you tend to over look certain things salary being one of them... Especially if you have been without a job for some time, etc.
 
I just heard that this morning a boulder was thrown through a truck window killing the driver.

Its pathetic that our government allows this behaviour!
 
It is our governments fault for not acting against unions for the unruly strike behaviour of their members. People are getting injured or even killed, as in this case, whenever there are disputes or wage negotiations.

I don't think R4000 per month is too little. I personally know of families earning combined income of R4000 and still afford to live comfortably.

These truck drivers accepted their salaries when joining the respective companies so what makes them different to us. My company has given a 8% increase to most staff. They are being offered 11%.
