Andy, I'm not trying to affect your purchasing decision. What's important is that the games on the console are entertaining to you, and that it fulfils your needs.
"Hardcore" is a terrible term, because it says very little, but is a widely accepted term used to refer to games like First person Shooter, RTS, RPG, Sim racing games etc - the sort of things that you would spend days emersing yourself in the story, or that rely heavily on complicated mechanics and/or graphics. Typically stuff appreciated by someone who's been playing games for years, not the sort of pick up and play Wii Sports type games. My mother would never want to play Call of Duty, or Assassins Creed.
The Wiis killer appeal is to a different market - the people that aren't interested in that sort of thing, it's after people who want back to basic pick up and play games, there is a split market. My comment was just a response to Skeptic, it's not a slight on the console. The "back to basics" "E for Everyone" mentality of Wii Sports & play is a good thing.
I said this to Dolby and I'll repeat it. You need to be clear about what you want out of a console. If you want family friendly pick up an play games, with a casual interest in more involved games, like a Zelda or Fire Emblem or BWii etc, then The Wii could be for you. If you're looking for a console for yourself and enjoy lots of Epic games, large scale battles, flashy graphics, surround sound and playing online, then you would probably better served looking elsewhere, whether that be 360, PC, or PS3.
