Hi, only have a win98 cd with me and a bootable floppy disk, typing this from my phone. Can someone help me through the steps please, Ive never d6ne this before

I have booted from the disk, it gave me 3 options. I choose option 1,to load from cd. Then it created a ramdisk or something. Now it shows me a Drive G and im currently at A.

what kind of computer are you trying to load it onto? Why don't you install a later version of Windows?

Enter
Code:
cd /d D(or whatever the CD-ROM is):
at the command prompt and then type install (or setup, can't remember) and press Enter. Alternatively, if the PC supports it, just boot from the CD. I have a Windows '98 first edition CD and it works perfectly when booting directly off the CD without a boot floppy.

Sorry not floppy, just a normal stiffy. Gary, i had Xp running on it, but Im on holiday for a week and pc just crashed, got a Win 98 cd here somewhere and all my Xp cds are at home in Jhb. @ dj thanks will try that quickly. Trying to boot from win98 cd g4ves an error

If you have Win XP on the drive, then your drive was probably formatted in NTFS - Win 98 cannot see NTFS, hence it only giving you drive G.

If you use FDisk on the drive to wipe it, then creat a FAT32 partition, you will then be able to install Win 98.

NOTE: IF YOU DO THIS ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE WILL BE LOST

Won't recommend this as most newer motherboards doesn't support the Win 9x kernels anymore.

Why not try a live Linux distro rather?

d'oh... doff question that :o
