OK, so I have my Galaxy S3 for 2 months now, and I eventually decided to root it.

But it's just not happening. I'm trying to root using Odin (I've tried both 1.85 and 3.04)

I did everything by the book
- loaded CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar in Odin
- connected phone (in download mode off course)
- only [auto reboot] and [f reset time] is ticked
- clicked Start.... everything goes according to the script

and then after the phone reboots, i check and NOTHING changed.
when I try to run Titanium backup, it says sorry guy, not rooted :(

I was hesitant to root in the first place, and I take it this is a sign not too :)

Anyone has any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong ?

The CF-Root file (when you download it), is a zip file. You need to extract that and then you will get the TAR file. Can you confirm you did this? If you flashed the ZIP as is, it will not work.

mercurial, correct, i downloaded the CF-Root .zip file, and extracted the file.
I loaded the .tar file via Odin, not the zip.

I've also tried it on my laptop and desktop. Same result.

@alternate, actually no. I just check and it's still 'disabled'.
I'll enable and try again.

Thanks

Also make sure you select "PDA" in Odin and load the TAR file through that box but I'm guessing it was the USB debugging that was causing it not to work.

Guys, thank you very much !! It was the USB Debugging.
S3 is now rooted and ready for some custom roms (if I don't break it)
