Major South African city cracking down on illegal electricity

The Tshwane Metro Police and Electricity departments confiscated several transformers worth R800,000 from the Marry Me informal settlement on Monday, according to the South African Police Services (Saps).

This was part of an operation to reduce crime, enforce the law, and enhance visible policing in identified hotspot areas.

And this is just one township.

Think about how many free kW (MW?) units are used over the whole south africa each day...

How the hell do these "non buyers" get their hands on the transformers?

If it's anything like what we read about what's happening in Alexander, they strip the street lights and other infrastructure and use that to power their homes.

Revolting, stealing so that they can steal

Cracking down are they?

Just a pity it is 30 odd years too late.

I'm more surprised to read an article that actually mentions the police and crime in the same article.

But yeah, glad that something is being done.
