The City of Tshwane has a new mayor.

The DA's Stevens Mokgalapa was elected at a special council meeting on Tuesday. He was the only nomination from the floor.

The meeting was a scheduled after Solly Msimanga officially resigned as executive mayor.

In his resignation letter to speaker of council Katleho Mathebe, which News24 has seen, Msimanga explained he was stepping down in order to pursue higher office.

For those of us not informed, what is the problem with the Glad Africa deal? The reader's digest version.

Alleged shenanigans by the City Manager in the awarding of a R12 billion tender. Msimanga blamed for failing to pay attention to what was going on.

Just like I hold Lekota partially to blame for the Arms deal as he was minister of defence at the time, then Msimanga too holds some blame here no? I mean R12 billion! Surely he should have some knowledge of the goings on when such massive tenders are awarded?
