Four Tshwane metro police officers have been arrested for robbery, the city's metro police department said on Monday.

The four, based in Mamelodi, allegedly went to Soshanguve on Saturday and robbed a shop, Senior Superintended Isaac Mahamba said.

At the time they were allegedly in full uniform and driving two marked metro police cars.

"They allegedly took prepaid airtime vouchers valued at R2500 and R5000 cash," he said.

When a local resident blew a whistle to alert neighbours to the robbery, the officers drove off. Locals took down the cars' licence plate numbers and went to the local police station.

The officers were identified and arrested when they reported for duty on Sunday. They would appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of business robbery.

The officers would be served with suspension notices. They would have seven days to reply to these and the department would then decide whether to suspend them.

Seven Tshwane metro police officers have been arrested in the past seven days.

Two of them were arrested on Tuesday, after they allegedly solicited a bribe from Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee. Abramjee said the two had stopped him for speeding on Monday and asked for a bribe to avoid him getting a speeding ticket, Mahamba said.

The two officers were operating a speeding camera in Centurion.

A 37-year-old metro police officer was arrested for allegedly soliciting a R100 bribe from a motorist driving an unroadworthy car in Hammanskraal on Wednesday.

"We are urging members of the public to come forward if our members are involved in corruption," Mahamba said.

"The department applauds members of the public who come forward. When our members insist on a bribe they should report it."

What is there to decide? They need to go to jail, screw suspension! (Obviously if a court of law finds them guilty that is)

Name and shame the criminals. Things like this upset me beyond words. Is this what our parents fought for?

Only 7 out of hundreds, not good enough.
Get rid of corrupt officials, JZ included.
