Tumble Dryer

We have a Defy tumble dryer - it's basic and reliable but we rarely use it. The sun does a pretty good job and it's free.

Most definitely avoid any tumble dryer that's not heat pump based.. you will just be wasting electricity.. the extra you spend on a heat pump version you will recoup in electricity savings in no time..

Okay, I see I need to research heat pumps now.

Yes. If you can just go straight to the heat pump model.

My old Defy eats about 5kWh on its eco mode over two cycles in a day. Newer ones I’m sure are much lighter but still eats a hell of a lot of electricity.

We chucked our old Defy as soon as we had the opportunity..

The Bosch heat pump dryer we have now can happily do 10 loads for the same amount of electricity as the old Defy used for two loads..

What do you need it for? If you look at your clothing labels, you’ll find over 80-90% of them state “Do not tumble dry”.

Tumble dryers rarely give problems. Mostly the belt and that is cheap and you can replace yourself. If you can find a cheapy that has no pc board and just a knob, even better.
They not essential, but do work great when the sun is not shining for days and even your towels in the bathroom starts smelling

I have had my Dreyer now for close to a year, and can't remember the last time I hung washing outside.

Bought our defy over 12 years ago, we only use it in winter or/and when it's been raining for a dew days non-stop. But it does use a lot of electricity.

Unless you have lots of kids or a toddler I don't really see why anyone else would need one in this country.

If it's been raining a lot and I want to dry things I chuck a dehumidifier in the same room, works a charm.
