Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday gave special instructions to relevant members of the defense establishment to fly special equipment to Turkey to aid in the country's rescue and recovery, following a deadly earthquake in the Van district on Monday.

According to a statement released by Barak, the decision to send the equipment to Turkey came after Turkish authorities requested assistance from Israel.
Strange considering the Turkish president just got back from a world wide tour (including SA) bashing Israel

Odd i thought israel offered, they offered on the day it happened as far as i recall.

Not really sure what the turkish president has to do with surrounding countries ignoring the people but anyhoo. To me that story looks very geared to making it look like the turks asked israel for help, they never needed to ask israel offered.

What does it matter though as long as the people get the help they need.

No matter how much bad blood flows between them, they're still willing to help one another in moments of crisis. Nice.

The power of the media - if you'd missed the earlier report then it would indeed appear that Turkey initiated the request.

Regardless however, human tragedies on this scale should always trump petty politics.

Don't care who asked who. It's great to see people working together at times like these. This is the way it should be all the time.

Not unusual, when Israel was on fire last year Turkey offered help as well, as did some of Israels Arab neighbors.
