Turn DSTV on and off yourself?

I've never had DSTV. I've heard that these days, you can turn your subscription on and off yourself, as required. So, say I get a premium subscription, but I only really want to use it for a couple of days to watch a specific sports event, or a specific show, then I can "deactivate" my subscription when I don't want to watch anything, and thus get refunded for that. Is that correct? Does it then charge on a pro-rata basis, ie if it's R625 pm then it's either R20.83 pd (30-day month) or R20.16 pd (31-day month)?

Does anyone know, if my subscription is temporarily deactivated, would I still be able to use SuperSport's live streaming (not that one can ever watch anything decently on that) and DSTV catch-up?
 
Do they say they will refund you anywhere?
 
1) remember that you can only suspend your account once per billing cycle

2) yes, your account will be credited.
 
My cousin has a separate card at his holiday home, whenever they go they phone monochoice to activate it, then deactivate it when they get home, AFAIK its billed pro-rata but I could be wrong...

I haven't really looked into it, though I have an MNet subscription, and certainly with that, if I have paid upfront for a full month, and I then ask them to turn it off on the 15th of that month, the account does get refunded with half a month's worth of subs. I assume it would work the same way? So they charge you upfront for the month, but if I didn't use it for half a month, my account would get credited for the period that it was turned off, meaning that the next month, I'd have to pay R625 less whatever amount I was in credit on the account from the previous month's refund. Can anyone confirm that this is how it works, and more specifically, whether I could use the online services with the subscription temporarily turned off.
 
1) As abzo says you can disconnect & reconnect once a month for free, if you do it again you will be charged R50 to reconnect (I think its still R50, might have increased)
2) No idea if they work it out as per the exact days in that particular month, few cents either way, who cares
3) Online functions will also be deactivated at the same time
4) They wont just physically refund you, they will credit your account & offset it against the next time its activated. You can request a refund, although it might take a while
 
If it's only R50 then it's probably worthwhile just turning premium on for the weekend and having DSTV disconnected during the week and supplemented with hulu and netflix. Best of both worlds.

That would cost you ~ R317 per month for the DSTV.
 
Expect a hefty bill if you plan on disconnecting and reconnecting every other day.
The pro-rata billing will be high as well.

It's simple enough to calculate that you need not get a surprise.

~R20.80 per day pro-rata
R50 reconnect fee if done more than once a month.
 
Is that a factual pro-rata value?
Or taken the monthly amount and divided it by the days?
Surely they charge a premium for pro-rata connection?

That's exactly how they calculate the pro-rata. There's no pro-rata premium.
 
I though that you are only allowed 1 upgrade and 1 downgrade per month.
