Hello fine gentlemen of the console community, i come bearing a question regarding making my PC function as a PS3 Media server.

before someone suggests that i search for it on Google i just want to say that i have, and i have tried two methods which i found didn't work (both on vista or my xp pc)

so my question to you is, is anyone here running such a setup? if so how/what did you do to achieve it.

all i want to do is stream media(via wireless lan) from my PC to my PS3

Most likely your best option.

I've dropped the whole media server thing and connected some external HDDs with the media via USB but since the PS3 can't play xvid3 and some other formats I've decided to hook an old PC up to my TV and installed some media center sofwtare on it. Now I can watch everyting and dont need to worry about the codecs :)

Thanks guys

i tried using Nero MediaHome as the media server, (which worked for many) but didn't work for me (maybe i was doing something wrong :P)

anyways i got it working... thanks people :P

i did the same, bought a 1 TB hard drive put on all the movies in a version the ps3 reads and kablaamm! its all good!!

One that has worked the best for me has been TwonkyMedia - serves to both my ps3 and x360

I am running MediaTomb as my UPNP server. It is open-source, can perform transcoding and runs on all platforms. Works like a charm - but configuration is not very intuitive.
