The number of people turning out to vote on Wednesday in Cape Town's northern suburbs appears to be higher than the 2009 election.
This is according to Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) officials and party agents at voting stations across Durbanville, about 30kms north of the city centre.
At the Curro Private School voting station, about 60 people stood in line at 3.30pm to cast their votes.
One person, who declined to be named, told Sapa she had driven to the voting station earlier in the day but turned around when she saw the length of the queue.
"I returned again at mid-morning and it was the same. The third time I said to myself it's now or never."
At Fairmont High School, there had been a steady stream of voters throughout the day after the early rush, an IEC official said.
Amber Crake, 28, who cast her vote at a Methodist church in Kraaifontein, said there had been a long queue but voters were being processed quickly.
"It was much busier than last time [2009]," she said.
Several party agents at other polling stations across the northern suburbs also told Sapa the turnout appeared bigger this time around.
