Cape Town - Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu shocked the audience at a Cape Town book launch with an outburst of outrage and anger about the state of the country.

Beeld reported that Tutu erupted with a raw, anguished cry despite sitting right behind a deputy minister and top ANC member.

The chatty audience at the book launch of Father Michael Lapsley’s autobiography Redeeming the Past was immediately silenced.

“What on earth are you doing!” Tutu called out.

“I am 80-years-old. Can’t you allow us elders to go to our graves with a smile, knowing that this is a good country? Because truly - it is a good country!” Tutu pleaded emotionally.

He ask the big question that our politicians cannot or will not answer. Relevant and something our government has yet to address. My admiration for Desmond Tutu grows by the day. HE stood up against an unjust white dominated government and now also a black one. What is right is right

Struggle activist Lapsley lost both hands and an eye in a letter bomb sent by apartheid authorities.

When Tutu later spoke at the podium he asked: “How can we have children 18 years later (after the dawn of democracy) who go to school under trees and whose education is being crushed without textbooks and no one is held accountable? Have we so quickly forgotten the price of freedom?

“People are going to sleep hungry in this freedom for which people were tortured and harmed…

“It is difficult to believe people are getting such money and benefits, and are driving such flashy cars while the masses suffer in cramped shacks.”

“Marikana felt like a nightmare, but that is what our democracy is in 2012.”

I'm glad he said it, more people need to start speaking out like this.

But it's probably too little, too late, and it is most likely going to fall on deaf ears.
 
I told the old frock in the Blair thread to stop phaffing about other countries' politicians and focus instead on how his beloved ANC is ****ing up this country ..

No fool like an old fool hey..

Pity the ANC big wigs will settle on calling him a deranged old man who needs to go sit quietly in the corner.

Hopefully more and more will start to speak out agains the injustice.

But then again, pigs will start to fly before that will happen. *sigh*
 
Tutu, put your money where your mouth is and vote for a party that can, like the DA, in the next election.

Until then kwaaaaa kwaaaaa kwaaaaaaa!

+1. If only Nelson Mandela had the balls.

There - I said it. Chastise me all you want. When you go on record to say your life long struggle is against oppression by whites AND blacks and that you are willing to die for your ideals, then kick back and retire in luxury while your former comrades turn the country to ****, you'll get no love or respect from me.

He's 90-something. Let him live out the rest of his life in peace ffs. Why do you expect him to be your saviour?

He could at least mention something along the lines of "the ANC is a mess and I dont condone it" not sit in silence while the country burns. IMO.

I don't need saving. Tell me Blue: apart from Nelson's fat cat comrades, do you honestly believe the poor previously disadvantaged are better off?

Worship him all you want. In time history will show he helped oust one rotten bunch and replace them with another.

Should he be held accountable? Hell yes. If Tutu can make waves by speaking out, imagine what Nelson woukd do.

But hands off, right? He's done his share. Just take the time to reflect on what he's really accomplished.
