Anyone know where I can get a device to take Video & Audio Out and send it down a LAN cable in a way that attached workstations can connect to the av stream?

You get HDMI to Cat6 to HDMI... so you must get something like the above.

Much easier way is to get a TV tuner card on a host PC, then broadcast the stream on the LAN to all other connected PCs.

M$ Media Server, but you will need a capture card of sorts on the server side (from experience an Osprey variant works well, used one on a rig like that over ISDN and DigiNET to stream to +-500 internet users)

I have an Intelsat-10 (formerlay PAS-10) 1.8m dish and decoder, and I want to push the TV signal from the decoder to the PCs on the home LAN. So I need a box that'll take RCA video and audio from the decoder and stream it on Cat-6 LAN cable in a way that PC media players can tap into. It'll probably be an IP device. In fact, I'd like two of such devices, so output from other AV devices (such as the DStv decoder) can also be streamed to PCs.

Ideally tbis is a box that has av input and a LAN connection; all one needs to do it is set a the IP address and voila, video streams across the LAN. Surely there must be something like this? Like a Slingbox without going out onto the www.

Capture card in a pc running VLC - I run this at home
Everything's in a small cupboard. Don't want to run a PC 24x7 inside a cupboard. Also, I need two such devices to broadcast two av streams from two decoders. PC can do only one.

The Slingbox can push av out to the web, so you can watch & control your DStv/PVR/whatever from anywhere in the world. I want something that's only local.

@Arthur Yep, I was going to suggest the Slingbox. It is the only PC-less solution that I know of or could find. The best bet is to keep an ear out for somebody going to the US and asking them to buy a Slingbox for you.

The Slingbox has rave reviews and is a great device. You need to use the SlingPlayer software to view the stream, but I see that you can get a plugin for VLC too.

a pc can do 2 streams if you get a dual tuner like a Hauppague 500 (sp) and send each stream on a different multicast address... The thing is, you're limited in functionality when it comes to a slingshot

use an IP video server/converter used in security systems. i.e something from Axis or Vivotek? Will take audio and video in. Device is assigned an IP and you connect to the video through a browser
