Hi All

I'm planning to buy a minimum of a 32 inch FULL HD LCD/LED tv for my room to watch my hd movies and series using the usb port of the tv.
The primary requirement is for it to work using the usb port, My brother has a 42 inch LG which plays all my HD movies and series without any issues.

I also want to know whether its worth getting an LED over an LCD? LED's are still pricier than LCD's.

Budget is R3000-R4000

I think i have found an LG 32inch will tracks my attention - http://www.hificorp.co.za/product/1034756/lg-tv-32-lcd-32lk430/

This tv does say it supports DivX and HD so i will take my external hard drive with some hd movies on to test that it plays and obviously to see if im happy with the quality.

Rather use a media player.
****LED>LCD****

I dont like LG, and dont buy from HiFi corp.
i think you would be happy with a Series 5 Samsung its about R5000.

Now run away before the others get here...

LED is LCD. Just different backlighting. No such thing as an LED TV.

Second the Samsung route, their USB HD media players are hundreds and should play anything you throw at it. Never had problems, I did have a problem with LG where media frame rate would slowly drop until watching was so jittery and laggy it was unbearable. That said it is 2 year old model.

Bear in mind the Samsung LCDs have matte screens which suit bright rooms, and the LED-LCDs have glossy screens which improve colours but are not as suites to bright rooms.

Get LED TV.

My tv room is fairly bright and i watch the led TV fine, i even play bf 3 fine with a bright room.

What you want to avoid is having windows with no curtain or blinds, regardless of the finish you will struggle. I guess some people don't have curtain or blinds according to postman but i have never seen a house without something to block some light.

But its still ****.... I have a LED TV, and reflections are annoying... on my previous LCD I could lie on the couch outside and watch TV... now I can't

1) No such thing as an LED TV
2) Room lighting in the path of the TV can also be a problem
3) Perhaps others don't want to have to use curtains in order to watch TV.

The LA40d550 is on special at House and home for R4799. I know, R800 over your budget (40" tv), but full HD LCD with full media player.

D series is old stock, you can get a new E series with LED tech for the same price.
The D550 is last years model, but the 2012 functionally equivalent 40EH5300 is about a grand more currently.

If you're feeling particularly environmentally responsible, always go for LED rather than LCD, whether for a TV or monitor. An LED unit's power consumption is MUCH lower than that of a standard LCD unit. Running a solar-powered home (I live in the bush), switching to an LED TV made a massive difference to my energy consumption! My combined 12v. TV/DVD unit (brought in from the UK) draws a miserly 1 amp of power.
