I dont wanna evAR get DSTV, TOPTV or anything else.. But I do need a proper aerial to replace my hanger from the back of the TV..

Anything I should be looking out for if there is any?

Or should I just go with the cheapest POS i can find?

well you can go for a conventional aerial setup

or

you can get a decoder and dish installed on the special if it is still running, i think it is like R599 and then pay the R20 p/m fee and have it through satellite instead of normal aerial

Nah dude, R20p/m is a rip off in my eyes. There is nothing that they need to decode for me to watch 7de Laan...

Get an aerial from a Chinese Shop with built-in amplifier and remote control. It costs about R150 and in my case got me crystal clear television reception.

dude i was just giving you your options, besides if it is to watch 7de laan reception quality should be the least of your worries :D

What type of setup are you looking at? Indoor or outdoor? Which area do you stay? What is your budget?

are you just saying yes cos ur name is DrYes?

If you consider R20 a month to watch tv via satellite a rip off then you obviously want to go super cheap and I doubt anyone can be of much help here.
Get yourself a bunny from china mall dude.

It's cool yo.. The wife will sort this out, its too much stress for me to deal with.
I'm just tired of holding the hanger at the right angel and standing still like a statue next to the TV.

Thnx guys!

Hi snugglez, The type of aerial (antenna) you need depends on a few things.
A) Where you live? Where you live will determine the "band" of antenna (yellow, red, white, blue) you need to purchase.
B) How afr you live from the transmitter. If you live more than 40 kms from the transmitter you will need an outside mounted antenna for good quality reception.
C) How much you are willing to pay. The coat hanger is the ultimate in cost saving. So if you want anything a little better you will have to spend a few R.

My suggestion is that you go to any ellies retailer and ask the sales assistant for advice on what to buy.

A wire coat hanger FTW. Just fix the cable and then tune the wire en fix the wire with Prestik, sorted!

Ahhh.. I wish I took a pic! This is exactly how it is now.. lol! + some insulation tape

They coming to install tomorrow, paying R1895.00 for a 2m aerial + installation..
Sounds like a rip off to me but the wife is payin so it's fine, just as long as it gets done.

rofl you could have had a dstv decoder + dish installed and like 5 years worth of the R20 subscription for that price

Snugglez64, you should cancel that install. It should cost about a third of that amount. That's not a rip off, it is daylight robbery.

This would be the best option:

Do it!!

Tbh, R20/month is actually very expensive to just get SABC and E.TV which you can get for R0/month via normal aerial. In my case, there was a aerial already in the roof when I moved in, and it gives me crystal clear image, the same I would get on DSTV, and this is on a 40" tv.

ROFL @ paying R2k for an aerial install...really dude?
