TV buying decison for Gaming

Hi All

Any advice will be appreciated. I game on PS4.

Need to decide between Samsung 48 inch LED non-smart non-3D TV, or Samsung 48 inch LED Smart 3D TV.

I am considering the Smart 3D, but not because of the 3D, but because of a higher refresh rate of 100 hZ instead of 50 hZ on the non-3D. Would there not be a viewing improvement when gaming?

The Smart part of it is also nice to have, but not necessary for me. I watch Youtube, Netflix and Hulu+ through PS4 anyway, but it does make the TV slightly more future proof.

Argh.
 
But then I'm left wondering whether the 100 native hz refresh will make a difference...
 
100Hz can be beneficial for games. Besides gaming, most people would only use it for sport. http://www.cnet.com/news/what-is-the-soap-opera-effect/

Sounds like you're describing a Samsung Series 5 and Series 6. Even if you weren't making use of 100Hz/3D, I'd still get the 6 Series for better picture quality. Budget does not seem to be an issue.

You could also take your PS4 to the shop and test. Avoid Massmart and other brightly lit stores. Try going to a dedicated A/V store that will have dim lighting, or better yet, a test room.

Don't discount the Samsung 51" FHD 3D SMART plasma either. PS51F5500 @ ±R9,500. It's a 9-10/10 rated TV. It has drawbacks like being more reflective, not suited for bright conditions, and static images leading to image retention (minor problem these days).

There's no such thing as an LED TV. ;)

I see this was posted a bit back... so I hope I'm not too late.

The 100Hz/200Hz advertised on these big screen TV's are not the same thing as the 100Hz on a computer monitor.

On TV's this higher refresh rate tends to be called something like Truemotion (Samsung)... what happens is, from your PC via HDMI the connection is 24/30/50/60Hz and then internally the TV hardware smoothes out the frame rate onto the display at 100/200Hz(/260?). When watching DVD/Blueray's... maybe even DSTV, this may result in a really smooth image with less ghosting (maybe) or whatever, but when it comes to gaming, you will experience MAJOR lag.

On my TV (Samsung 47D6200?), I had to enable game-mode for my PC input, which turned off the Truemotion, and then set the sharpness to zero to have the picture look right... so it's a Full-HD 60Hz 47" monitor... that's it (3D=30Hz).

Choosing the TV, look at the picture quality and background reflection, maybe make sure you have enough HDMI inputs.
When I choose my TV, the best picture/price TV also had the 3D and SmartTV components built in, which I very rarely use.

PPS. I can only speak from a PC to TV perspective... can you up the refresh rate of the PS4?

Don't think you can up refresh rate on PS4.

Bought Samsung 48 inch smart tv, but not 3D. Visual performance seems to be really good.

Dont you mean 60Hz?
