I have a Core2Duo 3.0Ghz PC, 3Gb of RAM and an old X1950XTX Graphics card (no HDMI out). I want to turn it onto a HD Media Center.
Firstly will the PC suffice? And secondly can anyone recommend a good TV card. I want to potentially connect it to DSTV later on but for the time being just SABC. I want to turn it into a fully featured PVR etc. so what do I need to look out for when buying hardware?

Thanks in advance.

Your PC is totally fine for recording video etc, basically any TV card should work, I don't know much about them but I know you get digital and analogue. The one you want is probably analogue. I've even got one lying around that I've never bothered to try!

Your system is more than fine. I can't give an exact model number, but look at the Compro range locally.

Compro owns, personally, although there are better. but i love the remote, you can use it for your whole system so it isn't limited to the TV Player only.

Your pc is good enough for a TV Card, you should know this when you research TV cards and read the minimum requirements.....

Thanks guys. I wasn't so much worried that my PC couldn't handle a TV card... but the ability to timeshift, record and play 1080i HD. I'll have a look at Compro.
