I gotta give them their due. They sure no how to hound you into paying.

It is not them per se. They outsource the collections to 'lawyer' firm. In the old days the lawyer firm would get a cut from collecting the outstanding fees, but these days they charge SABC per letter\email\sms they sent out to you. So in the end they may charge up-to the full outstanding amount in fees to the SABC for collecting the money. Or so I have been told..........

do they even have an address to which they would send this legal action they threaten me with?

bloody useless bullies. i've got half a mind not to pay them.

They're not lawyers...

They're debt collectors pretending to be lawyers

I owed 2700. Asked them out of curiosity if I paid today, how much would it take.. Guy put me on hold to discuss with his team lead, came back and told me R200. I paid.... I'm back up to date and account is settled ;-)

Got a summons for my daughter's TV licence. She has been living in England since 2003 and I have a letter from the SABC dated 22/08/2003 confirming the sale of her TV to a third party. Called them but since the ref number on the summons is slightly (ends with an 07 instead of an 70) different the lady there could not assist, said I must first pay. Oh yes...

The end of May is when everyone's TV license expires. I will pay R25 to R50 whenever I pass a Post Office at Month-end. Only problem is when you want to buy a new TV then they force you to pay up until the end of the current period. ie End May 2013.

I am in the same boat, my mom been living overseas for 2 years now.
I am gonna try send them a letter with a copy of her passport...but at the end of the day, i am not going to put much effort into it.

I will call and tell them i am willing to settle the 2 month that she was here and didn't pay, anything else, they will never see that money.

VVM attorneys want to issue summons, so they say (the previous document looked just like a summons, but reading it carefully, it is the intention to issue summons). So I asked them why they are bothering to chase someone who emigrated 8 years ago. Oh, you did not tell us that they said. So I forwarded yet another copy of her letter dated 22/08/2003. The reply was that she must visit a Police station and make out an affidavit saying she is living in the UK, or summons will be issued forthwith. My daughter said, let them issue summons, I am not here so cannot receive it and in any case the house I was living in 2003 has been demolished and is now a block of flats.

i am now lumbered with two licences. A pensioner one for my gran, our townhouse is in her name, and one in my name, as bought her a new tv as a gift and didnt have her id with me so the shop forced me to pay for another (even though i could provide her id number and proof i stay at the same address). I know mine, is coming up fir renewal soon and i want to cancel it as the tv is hers and so is, the townhouse. Any ideas?
