Hi everyone,

I'm upgrading from a very old 1080p Samsung that I've been using with a 2nd gen Chromecast. 1st choice would be something with Google TV built-in so that I can use the Steam Link app. Mainly going to be using it to watch sport and movies and occasionally some casual gaming via the Steam Link app. My PC's GPU is not powerful enough to push out 144FPS at 4K with modern games, so not sure whether going for a higher refresh rate TV is worth it.

The budget is +- R10k and I'm hoping to go somewhere between 55" or 65". I'm stuck choosing between the TCL C645 (R10k for the 65") and Sony X75K (on special for R11k for the 65"). Any recommendations between these two in terms of the display quality and the general experience (how fast apps load etc)?

Or is it worthwhile to consider other brands and then getting a standalone new generation Chromecast with Google TV?

Neither
Check this out on takealot: Toshiba 65" Z770 UHD Android Smart LED TV with Dolby Atmos & Quantum Dot
Still the best value tv at that price

At this point if Toshiba made airfryers they would be the top recommended ones....

Well if it was the best bang for buck at the price point why wouldn't it be? Do you want people to suffer through entry level TVs?

I have never had anything other than entry level TV's... but on the other hand I stopped watching TV a decade ago and do everything on PC now.

Ah you're one of those ;-) I don't have a TV, but I use a device that uses more power to watch a series. Or a little screen on my phone ;-)

Yes, I am a climate criminal because I don't waste money on unnecessary redundancy.

But the PC is using more power ;-) unless it's a laptop I guess
So? Does it not use more power to use both a PC and a TV considering I am already using a PC anyway?

What exactly is your argument here?

But why would you be using a PC and the TV at the same time? Most TVs can play streaming apps, if not a cheap tv box uses 2.5 to 5w and plugs into the TV :-). Why do you make your life more complicated?
Oh you don't have a TV license I get it

So you agree that it would be pointless but then you call me "one of those"?

What am I not getting?

Why you're even chirping in on a what TV recommendations when clearly you have no interest in it, but to rather just come along and go oh I've not had a TV since naught. You're probably one of those that would be like oh my children don't have sweets either types :-P.
Stay your lane, you don't have a TV, don't comment on the TV sections. Go play with your airfryer for entertainment.

What? I am not allowed to make fun of airfryers? I though it was a myBB rite of passage.
