Hi

Anyone got ARC (Audio Return Channel) to work, in general.

My Samsung PS64E8000 can control the volume on the receiver but no audio is coming back. It is a Yamaha RX-A810 and all HDMI Control and ARC settings has been enabled on both the TV and Receiver.

Using Optical out from the TV to the Receiver at the moment but the cable is a bit short so doesn't look too good. Would prefer to use the same HDMI cable that feeds the TV from the receiver.

Regards,

Are you using HDMI2 on the TV?

Yep. The one marked "ARC".
Then sorry, thats the only obvious gotcha I can think of.

BTW what audio are you wanting to receive from the TV? Have you tried playing a file with DD/DTS soundtrack on the TV's media player e.g. off USB stick?

Apparently ARC only support 2.0 audio as per the ARC standard. But I tried various MP3's and videos from NAS and USB. Also tried (don't laugh) angry birds and vTuner internet radio.

My understanding is ARC should do 5.1 if the audio is originating from the TV e.g. media player or DTV tuner. Audio coming in from other HDMIs connected to the TV will only be 2.0 passthru to ARC.

Oh ok. Either way, I'm not having any luck :-(

Seems I will have to settle for the current optical.

Doing firmware upgrade on the TV now. Hope it will start working afterwards.

I would download the user manuals for both amp & TV and read the sections relating to audio/ARC carefully. Maybe you just missed a critical setting.

ARC works fine for me.

Only real issue is that I don't ever watch TV.

Also I've passed back 5.1 when testing the Plex App for Samsung SmartTV.

I don't recall seeing any ARC setting anywhere on the TV.

I was struggling for a couple of days with ARC on a Marantz 1402 receiver & Samsung D6000 LCD. I went through manuals, searching online resources and upgrading firmware on the D6000 LCD. As a last resort I swapped out the HDMI cable. It worked!

Yes if you have a very old HDMI cable then it might not be up to 1.3 spec which is where I recall ARC was included.
