I see values like 50 and 80% from my searches but are there any specific guidelines on how to set your TV volume when external speakers are being used?

I have external speakers attached to my TV and therefore my TV volume does not do anything. Everything comes through the speakers, so setting my TV's volume in my case doesn't matter.

It's a 2.1 system, I think it has an amp. Connected to the tv using the headphone socket.

Best setup is when TV audio output is connected to AMP Audio input for best sound quality.... sometimes connecting male cable on TV's headphones to radio makes echo

I set my amp to 50% volume and control the sound level using my tv remote control, and is loud at about 30%.

Some time ago I had something similar. I was told to put the tv sound on 80-90% and control the volume from the external unit/speakers. It worked well. 80-90% is loud without distorting on the tv side. Out of the discussion it turned out that it is ideal to put the tv as loud as possible without it distorting. Your tv speakers should be off. All the sound should come from your external speakers.

There's no sound coming from the TV, only the external speakers.

The way I have it now is 50% on the speaker and adjusting using the tv remote so that I don't have to get up.
