I installed this late last night ... I was so tired I just checked it succesfully installed, checked my Xbox saw this software and crashed to sleep. So I haven't played with it ...

How beefy does the PC need to be in order to transcode? I have a Celeron D 1.6ghz with 512MB RAM. It was bought only for streaming so it has NO software on it and isn't running anything else. Is this too small?

When I got it ran SuperPi (not much of a benching program, I know) and it was literally a few seconds slower than my P4 3.0ghz HT with 1GB RAM. I'm guessing they're similar in power then?

Last thing is what exacly is transcoding? Converting the format of the video in real time to a format that the Xbox recognises?

Exactly right. So it's one of the most resource intensive jobs a pc can do.

I'm not too sure if the PC is 'good enough' but my P4 3GHz with 1GB memory does seem to struggle sometimes; I guess it depends on the original format of the video.

On a side note, make sure to go through each and every option on the left side menu under Library and delete all the links and feeds before putting the pc online. These feeds suck a large amount of bandwidth. I lost nearly 600MB before I realised what was happening.

Just expect it to use a lot of processing time, it is not a simple process to do on the fly...

yeah, you'll probably need to start a file transcoding and then go make lunch and come back and play it again if you wanna play it smoothly (for 40 min shows). thats from my pentium 4 experiences. a dual core processor is much better, only a 20-30 second buffer is needed.

or u could transcode all your media overnight if u have enough storage ;)
or ust convert all your media to mpeg... but then again apparently the next live update gives us divx/xvid support :D

My AMD is two years old, 3500+ and it transcodes perfectly, even with other **** running. Tho you can only be running TVersity and (pratically) nothing else.

3500+ is equal to what in Pentium terms? :/

My Athlon XP 2000 (2.0Ghz pentium equivalnet) struggles to transcode, so I'm afraid, unless you set the quality really low, I don't think the celeron will cope.

Hopefully the Fall update will include DixV :)

Argh ... I do have a real media streamer connected if all else fails. I'll give it a bash though!

Thanks!

Whats the worst that can happen? It doesn't work? Besides you can easily stream music if the video ain't working... And playlists are so easy with TVersity - any .m3u will do!

you can just change some settings in tversity to be less CPU intensive. I had problems when I installed it where it will cache a bit, stop, then cache a bit. which made viewing movies screwed up.

I think I changed one or two settings (one being the resolution) and everything streams 100% now

I have a Pentium Dual Core 3.0ghz and 3 Gigs of RAM. It works perfectly just don't expect to use the machine for anything else when it is transcoding. My machine sits at 95% - 100% when watching a movie or episode on the xbox.

On one of my other threads about TVersity, someone mentioned he had to disable something otherwise it downloaded 600MB data automatically. Where is this? :/

I removed the RSS streams etc and it seems to be using no data now ... after I've lost 200MB :( I want it specifcally for Xbox - no internet connection
