I'm just wondering here...

If I were to sign up for MyWireless and install the modem on my home pc...

Would i need to register for a second account if i wanted to connect my laptop with the pcmcia card???

You may opt to buy another modem, seeing as you get standalone packages now, but i'm not sure if they're going to force you to sign a 12 month contract for it if you already have a contract.

another thing is, you can't connect at home AND your laptop at the same time, so i'd rather take the modem with me wherever i go out with my laptop. It has portable power so it lasts for an hour or so before dying on you, and if you're near a powersource with your laptop anyway, just go the "lugging modem around" route. You could get the ethernet cable extension for your PC, and keep the USB cable for your laptop, that way you dont have to plug in and out the whole time.

plug 'n play i say

Hello,

I have spoken to various people about this, and results are that you CAN buy an unbundled, standalone PCMCIA card. It's R 3500, though, which is very expensive.

They will not force you to sign a contract.

Try speaking to Dean henstock at ods.co.za

As far as I know, you cannot dial both modems into a single account at the same time.

You can have two modems, however you cannot dial into the same accoutn twice, it will kick the one user off. [:D]

Has anyone tested this? I've got no problem if it kicks one user off. I'm happy to stay dialled in at home, pop in the PC-Card, use it for an hour or two and then disconnect and have the home modem reconnect. Mind you, I guess it would be pretty simple to knock up a script that you execute on the home machine to log out for a few hours and then reconnect.

What would piss me off is if I just plain can't connect when I'm authenticated elsewhere.

Can anyone offer any clarity on this?

BTW, is there any decrease in signal when using the PC-Card over the standard modem?

Problem is when you kick the existing user off. That might be you kicked off by somebody else using your id. So the easiest would be to leave the current user and deny access to the later ones. Having said that, I'm almost sure if I termserv into my work pc (on XP), it actually logs out my current session there (I never log out [:)])
