Hi
Just curious. We are on afrihost and have been using what appears to be their Twitch relay without much hassle, however lately it's been unstable.
is it still valid with some issues or is it broken completely? (stream.afrihost.com/twitch)

Hi

If http://fwd.afrihost.com/ is loading then it means the relay is running as expected.

By default the relay pushes traffic to the London ingest server which in the past is known to have had issue and might be what you are experiencing.

You can modify the relay to specify an ingest server. You can see my post here.

A good alternative being rtmp://fwd.afrihost.com/live-fra.twitch.tv

We are hopeful these issues and the need for a relay will no longer be required once Twitch has completed their JHB deployment.

Wait so Twitch is finally deploying some servers on SA?

Indeed. They have contacted us to set up peering as soon as their deployment is done due to the traffic volumes we generate. I assume all ISP's will get access but we are really keen to be the first set it up and give it a go.

Any rough timelines?

Seems like it died off, I wonder if it's because they may just collapse it into AWS.

Whatever happened about this?

Nothing. It just died off like PBCool mentioned. We were very keen to set up a PNI and got the specs from them and the next moment they just said the Johannesburg pop expansion project has been placed on hold. After that, we have not heard from them again.

I mentioned this in the main support thread a while ago, it looks like the Afrihost Twitch relay isn't working anymore, it accepts the stream but it doesn't go anywhere.

I tried 3 other relays and they all work, swap to the Afrihost one and you never actually go live on Twitch.

Maybe a stupid question from someone who rarely watches anything on twitch, but why would you need relays and stuff like that here, is it for watching streams or streaming yourself?

Relays are for streaming yourself.

Sou mentioned the issue. Albeit AfriNatic can it be looked at again? Had the same experience with the Afrihost relay

Might have missed that post. Sorted please try again.
