Twitter making big changes to "For You" feed and polls

Twitter Inc.’s “For You” feed, the default view for users of the social network, will no longer recommend content from accounts that aren’t verified, owner Elon Musk tweeted on Monday.

The change, effective April 15, will mean only verified accounts — those paying an $8 [R144 on the web in South Africa] monthly fee or associated with a verified organisation — are eligible to have their tweets suggested in the timeline that appears when most users open the app.

I have discovered so many cool accounts on the "For You" page since its implementation. None are verified.

Its a business. Getting revenue directly makes them more sustainable and frees us from having our data mined and sold off.

We are no longer in a low interest rate world. Social media needs to be a paid enterprise. Perhaps not a bad thing if $8 isn't worth it for the poster, perhaps this platform isnt that important to that person.
 
I still have an issue with being served with EFF content by the loads. All I have at this time is political user 'suggestion', all SA related, mostly EFF.

Now I am encouraged to turn on notices on some users, and only observe them. Under normal conditions I am supposed to be served with tech-related suggestions. I don't like what they have done with the algorithm. Time will tell whether April 15th will improve this... Basically, users will have to pay $7/pm to have their opinions pinned on the wall.
