Twitter updates in SA?

What is the age demographic for Twitterists and how many potential Vodacom customers does that translate into?

Seriously though... i just read through that article...

"Obviously you need to be a Vodafone customer to receive free messages and you need to activate your handset in the Twitter settings. But if you send a message, you'll have to pay for it at the normal SMS rate, unless you've got inclusive texts"

Urrr... when have i ever payed on any nework for RECEIVING a message?
I dont get it... theyre putting a bird icon and stupid name on a standard SMS service?

As a former MTN customer, I used to have the privilege of paying for [received] delivery report SMSes, not sure if that has changed but it was a primary reason for my defection to CellC years ago [what a mistake that was].

You guys need to get out more. ;)

SA is one of only a few places where you don't pay for incoming calls and SMSs. I am not sure if they did it that way because they were being nice, or because they knew this would have seriously impeded growth in a 3rd world country. :D

In the US they often charge to send or receive AFAIK they're the exception to the rule.

I've never experienced that happening in the UK though. So far I've only looked at vodafone's site but they state "Receiving text messages from another mobile whilst in the UK is free."

Maybe I do need to renew my passports and get out of the country more frequently, but please give me a list of the places you've been to where you are charged for [non-roaming] incoming calls & SMSes - I want to avoid those countries like avoiding a heart attack.

Ill assume im just missing the point, but I have a twitter client installed, I am sending and receving messages from this client, without all the annoying sms's.
