Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Libode at the weekend, Eastern Cape police said.

A 28-year-old man, who works for the social development department in Mthatha and a 26-year-old were arrested on Sunday in Ngangelizwe, Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela said.

The armed robbery happened on Friday.

During the arrest police recovered a R5 rifle with two magazines and 71 live rounds of ammunition, two 0.38 revolvers with five rounds of ammunition, a pistol and a shotgun, said Fatyela.

The serial numbers on the guns had been filed off.

Police also found a laptop, a skimming device and three stamps which belonged to the department of home affairs.

A vehicle, which was hijacked in Port Elizabeth, was also recovered.

Fatyela said the men were linked to 12 other robberies.

The two would appear in court soon.
