Johannesburg - Two ATMs were bombed in Moteti village near Dennilton in the early hours of Monday, Limpopo police said.
Spokesperson Constable Mmapitso Aphane said the incident occurred at the local shopping mall shortly after midnight.
Five cars that included a BMW, Nissan Sentra and a Mercedes-Benz entered the premises. Several men got out of the vehicles and drew firearms.
"A security guard ran away and the men led two petrol attendants into their changing rooms at gunpoint.
"They ordered one of the attendants to fill petrol into the tanks of three of their vehicles. The gang then blew up the machines, causing huge damage."
Next the gang held up two men who arrived shortly after the explosion to buy food from the petrol station and took their cellphones and their car.
It was not immediately clear how much money was taken.
Police were investigating cases of malicious damage to property, armed robbery and car hijacking.
