Two connections on one ADSL line

Im sorry as I know this will have been discussed before. I have looked and what I found doesnt seem to help me.

I am a gamer and the rest of the household are browsers. I have the DLink 2750u modem router which I have setup with the MWEB account for their ipad etc to connect to. I then enabled PPPOE pass through so I can create a separate connection to game on using an Afrihost account.

This doesnt seem to help at all. When they browse I still get huge lag and ping spikes.

My question is, how do i set it up that they can still browse wirelessly and i can play without the lag and ping spikes. Is there a way?

Get the ADSL to 4 meg or higher. Then get a proper ISP, and only use one ADSL account for everyone. Openweb's gold accounts run on specials every other month.

I think the problem is, your two connections are sharing the same line as was provisioned by telkom. Eg its a 4 mbps line from telkom and you have two 4mbps accounts, they only have 4 mbps between them to share.

Maybe upgrade your line speed with telkom

If he had a 10Mbps line and 2 x 4Mbps accounts, would he get full speed on both accounts?
It would probably be cheaper getting a 10Mbps account anyway.

In theory yes he would, but with network overheads etc. I doubt he will ever get full line speed. +1 on getting a 10mbps account and line. And maybe setup QoS on the ports that you use for gaming. That way you should see a definite increase in speed and decrease in latency.

Yip... Its not so much the speed thats the issue but the upload capacity & latency. Everytime someone uses the same line (regardless of how many ISP's you are dialed up to), they are utilising the same 4mb/512kb limit of the line. So its exactly the same as being on one dialup with one ISP.

Somehow i don't think browsing is the only thing they are doing on the tablets. You might want to check if one of them isn't running torrents. Its a really difficult thing to qos against torrents effectively on a dlink.

I would love to do the whole QoS route but from what I have read that is not supported by Telkom. If it is possible maybe someone could explain how the Dlink 2750u's QoS works and what settings I need to implement.

The upgrading the line is not possible at the moment.

Thanks for the responses so far. I must say it is very frustrating when you having a good run going when playing and you get kicked from the server for having a high ping or you just stop getting bullet registering hits.
