Two police constables were shot and wounded on Wednesday during a shoot-out with a group of men in Dawn Park, east of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

The two officers, aged 38 and 40, were shot in the upper body and the hand respectively around 10am while patrolling the area, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

They were taken to Union Hospital in Alberton.

The officers earlier approached a vehicle containing five people which had raised their suspicions.

Two men jumped out of the car and began firing shots at the officers.

"Police returned fire. Two suspects then fled the scene on foot while the other three drove away," Dlamini said.

It was not clear whether the men from the car were wounded or not.

No arrests had yet been made.

One died from a gunshot wound to the hand? Or are they saying they were both hit in the upper body and hand?

Unless he was using his hand to protect his face, I don't think a bullet there can be fatal, just as an FYI.

Looks like you are talking to a 30 percenter. :p

:p Not the intention, just tried to clarify. Sometimes the way in which some of these articles are written also get the best of me, especially when your brain starts speed reading and or substituting words you read with what your brain think you read.

This, 100% !

Ok ok, moegoe-of-the-day award goes to me. :p

This article again highlight the arrogance of criminals, having no respect for the law.
I fear the day that the police are going to treat everybody as a potential criminals to ensure their own safety.

Our Justice system should impose the maximum sentences on perpetrators of this type of crimes.

Nah, the headline also had me thinking someone died. It's like we've become desensitised to people being shot since it's an everyday occurrence, so now if it's a headline we jump straight to thinking they died :o

There is another article on here today in regards to the SANDF that must be 'overhauled'. IMO they should just close shop and rather invest all those funds into the SAPS and get it working as it should be.
