Hey guys

I'm just curious to know if I can run two gpus independently of each other to power two monitors on the same machine. Logic tells me the gpus need to be bridged but a colleague tells me otherwise.

plug them both in and install, sometimes there are conflicts though, but I havn't heard of conflicts when both are on the PCI-E ports

I'm sure they can run independently of each other. Just as any other hardware device would do. Just not sure how it would work.

Please keep us updated if you do get it going as I would like to get a board with more than one PCI-E x16 slot and keep my 8800GTX in one for Physics processing and then my HD 6870 for everything else.

That seems like an awful waste of power just for PhysX, I would not do it.

I have run a monochrome display card and a VGA on a 386 running windows 3.11, so it is definitely possible...

thats done quite alot, but you need a fix to get the Nvidia to work, since they don't like people doing that, google is your friend tho, I don't know the rest

I am gonna have to ask you.....why?

Bards tale fetish? Green Beret?

Why what? It was many moons ago, 386 was still usable, and I had a monochrome display and card on my desk, so I just plugged it in as an experiment. It worked surprisingly well.

Well it's just lying around and any nVidia card can run Physx better than an AMD... Which makes me wonder why not :)

Awesome :) I shall research

Venom: If both cards are Nvidia, the second card will be auto-detected by drivers(my experience was using 2 x PCIe slots).I did that a while ago when I was running 3 Monitors for some work.Just for interested sake, why dont you just plug 2nd monitor into you Primary display adapter.Way less power usage.

Te GTX8800 is quite power-hungry, but with winter coming, it might not be so bad. Also PhysX is not really all that great IMO.

Yes. If you arent running win7 they need to be the same company. Ati or Nvidia. If Win7 you can mix and match as you please.

Or evidently Win 3.11. I am sure you could get them to work in XP if I could get completely different cards to work in 3.11

Ah my PSU runs it all fine :) Running it atm, just got my replacement HD 6870 so gona pop that in now.
