Two killed as driver avoids road block

, the drunk driver was in a large, safe Honda Accord sedan (5 star safety). The poor dead people where in a tin can Hyundai i20 or i30 or accent Hatch (I can't tell based on the side profile). They didn't stand a chance. See how much more squashed the Hyundai bonnet is.

That is a red herring. The fact is both are to blame if the alleged drunk driver was really drunk. If it was set up like most roadblocks I can hazard a good guess it was unsafe. As I said visibility and not just trying to catch those disobeying the law. Where are they when they are supposed to be visible? I didn't see them at any robot trying to make our roads safer during the load shedding we just had.

A picture was tweeted yesterday of two plods at a traffic light.

Okay, they were in the shade of a shop that sold chicken. But it was close.

Yep, there is a vast difference than having had 3 beers after work and thus being over the legal limit and being drunk.

EDIT: You can drink these three beers, drive home, get involved in an accident that was not your fault, and be labeled a drunk driver.

Drunk guy sees roadblock. Drunk guy panics and tries to do a u turn. This accident happened because the guy was drunk - where are you getting the "the roadblock must have been poorly visible" from? (And Hendrik Potgieter is a pretty straight road, one would need to be legally blind *not* to see any sort of roadblock from a fair distance).

I know of any number of regular roadblock spots in and around JHB and while they can be rather annoying, few are quite the hazard you're making them out to be. Unless you're drunk enough to try something stupid to avoid them as happened here.

You are right. I think we should take away police man's guns. From now on, they must only hug criminals. Ask them how they are. Ask them if they would like to talk to someone. If the criminal shoots at them, they must turn the other cheek. They must ask for forgiveness.

Or... it just has to be a roadblock that isn't visible. Like the one where it was pitch dark and she was just as dark as the pitch flashing her little penlight torch not even in my direction.

You seem to be of the opinion that law enforcement always does things by the book as they are supposed to.

Accident happened over daytime, get over your incident and stop defending the guys indefensible action.
