Yikes, just when I thought IOL wouldn't be so stupid they exceeded my expectations...

The new Wimpy advertisements on the side are much worse than the full screen background ads on News24. IOL has also completely removed their comment facility unless you login with a Facebook or Twitter account. I've stopped commenting on News24 when they also started forcing Facebook and Twitter down my throat.

Are News24 and IOL really so naive that they think that the trolls won't simply create false Facebook or Twitter accounts and continue their anarchy?
 
The News24 comment section should remove the thumbs up/thumbs down thing, it does nothing more than promote cheerleading and egg users on to write even more racists drivel.

I think that they assume that if there is a little effort required on the part of trolls, it may just reduce the amount of trolling done.
It will be effort, as if you have a Facebook session open with your real account, and need to post with your troll account then you will need to log out of the real one. Not major effort, but perhaps it will put off some people
 
Wimpy overload !

IOL quality has deteriorated day by day. Old news, pointless articles and grammar and spelling errors are par for the course.
 
Do people still read IOL? I stopped using their main page when they made it unnavigable with slide shows and mouseover events.

Use m.iol.co.za - the mobile site is a joy to use.

Agreed , i recently moved from news24 to IOL due to ads on news24 , looks like IOL going the same route.

Looks like the Wimpy ads have already been taken down. At least the worst ones on the side. They use to show the Wimpy logo from the top all the way to the bottom, with half of the left and half on the right.

This is what IOL looked like early this morning and late last night, they have since changed it to red sidebars. Its horrible on a large LCD monitor.
