Impala Platinum released a statement Tuesday night confirming that 2 miners are trapped underground after a fall out ground in Rustenburg.
According to Impala Platinum spokesperson Johan Theron: “nine people were working during the fall out ground, 7 were accounted for with minor injuries and two remain unaccounted for.”
Theron says Impala Platinum has a rescue operation in place, with the hope that the two miners will be accounted for, as soon as possible.
“It is very difficult to find the miners because of the very unstable and dangerous ground conditions,” says Theron.
He further adds that impala platinum is not sure where the miners could be. He says that it is a very big area to cover and they can only access the mine from one point.
“We are trying to use the latest technology to locate the miners,” says Theron.
The names of the miners are yet to be released as their families are yet to be informed.

Ventilation won’t be a problem but there might be injuries from the fallen rocks and that’s why efforts are on trying to get there as quickly as possible.”
Earlier this year, four miners died in an underground fire at the same mine.
