Firstly, can someone recommend a decently priced one? I'd prefer a 22", but can go down to a 19" if the price makes it tempting. I saw a 22" Samsung last night for around R2300 but didn't bookmark the page. That would be my upper limit in price.

Secondly... my laptop screen is smashed. Took a cricket ball right in its gob. If I plug an external monitor in, will XP pick it up automatically and display on it, or will I have to set it up? I have only a few centimetres in the top left of my screen that I can actually view so configuring the new monitor will be tricky to say the least.

Never play cricket indoors, kids.

Hi Midrange

I just bought a 23" Samsung 2333sw full HD lcd monitor for under R2300. The screen is amazing. If you have the budget then I would recommend it.

Isn't there an option on your keyboard usually F8 to change display modes, I am not 100% sure.

+1 to not playing cricket indoors :D

Looks like a nice monitor, Reaper. Where did you get it from?

I'm using a friend's laptop at the moment that runs Vista - F8 did nothing.

I bought two 2333SW for R1999 each from PC Zone (http://www.zones.co.za/) In Feb. I see they have the 2494HS for R2199 at the moment (its better than the 2333WS). Both are full HD (1920 X 1080) the 2333sw is 20000:1 contrast ratio the 2494HS is 50000:1 contrast ratio. both have 5ms response times. The pic in high def is fantastic, I run all my games in high def (if supported) now! its yummmy !

I live in PE so I bought it from one of the local shops here for R2249. There are quite a few online websites that also sell them.

www.buycomputers.co.za have them for R2199 at the moment. The resolution on this monitor is insane and the picture quality is one of the best I have seen.

The F8 key is usually the key that changes between external/internal display if I am not mistaken. I think you usually have to use the function key and F8 at the same time. What laptop are you using? I am only really familiar with Dell but they should all be generally the same.

Hope this helps

the F8 key takes you to the OS loading options (safemode etc)

to switch dsiplay settings on laptops it's always a combination of the FN key + 1 of the F keys (usually between F4 - F8) depending on the brand.

this switching function usually only works after you have logged in.

sometimes when you have an external display connected it will run the boot sequence and windows loading screen in the 2nd dsiplay, but the login screen will only be displayed on the primary display (if you are lucky it wont)

any way, after you log in it can be set.
