Hi guys,

two quick questions:
One, I'm on quite a tight budget, and so far I've settled on buying the Billion 5102S, but saw a Mecer modem on digitalplanet. Have any of you used it? Is it any good, or should I spend the extra rands for the Billion?

Question two - are the normal Telkom telephone cables you buy in supermarkets okay for connecting a distant PC to the line, and how long can you extend it before having problems (will be extending about 8m with the current setup) ?

Thanx very much :)

ok,
1. i dont know what is best personally but what ive heard netgear and billion

2. why would you want to do that? put the router by the line, but if you want to extend the telephone line then it will be fine.

What are you trying to do?!?
Get a ADSL router, the router will allow you to connect your pc to it via a network cable and the router will act as the modem and hub.
Hope that is understandable :P !

O, and welcome to MyAdsl, we hope you enjoy your stay!

Go billion , but try to aviod the long cables. They make connections unstable. See if there is not another option.

I have nice USB adsl modems that work well for R299 .00 incl VAT and R30 shipping if you want- they are just as good at the billion but cheaper. im using 1 now np's

Hi, and thanx :)

Well, it's a shared connection with my flatmate. She has an oldish laptop with no network card, and can get a usb modem from a friend. The connection needs to go from my room, where the connection point is, to her room, and I'd rather buy myself a modem than buy her a network card. Plus, the network cable is too thick to fit underneath the doors :)

What modem is it ur selling?

Telkom showed up at my place this morning, after 6 weeks of silence since the order was placed. No appointment made. Rude, but finally installed. Weird...
