Was having a look at the 8800 GTS graphics card, and on the gigabyte site detailing the card, there is a small footnote saying:

Please note that GV-NX88S320H-B-RH will occupy two slots from your PC.

Which 2 slots would that be on an SLI m/board?
That implies that if you have 2 of these cards in SLI, you lose 2 other slots altogether.
What does that leave you options wise, as to any other cards?

I assume that SLi motherboards have around 5 PCI slots and the PCIe slots are eperated by a PCI slot as well. If this is the case then you would loose 2 PCI slots and still have 3 available for other things. Most ATX boards come with onboard everything anyway. Only thing you might want to change is your sound.

Not alot depending on your mobo. If I ran SLI on my mobo I'd only have two slots available.

i all depends on the design of the board. i speak from true fact here, so this is not a guess:

if your board is designed in such a way that all slots are equally distant from each other and you have PCI & PCI-Express Slots, then the card, when in your board will cover the next slot underneath the slot you plugged your card into.

BUT: newer SLI boards are designed generally with slots in this order: PCI-Express 16x
PCI-Express 1x
PCI-Express 16x
other slots

so if your board is like this, then you wnt be able to use your "PCI-Express 1x slot underneath you first "16x" slot and you wont be able to use one of your other slots(whichever is underneath the next "16x" slot.

HOPE THIS HELPS. IF you look at the board you want or have, just see if the slots are designed in a similar fashion and you can see what slots you wnt use. This is a downfall, but ask yourself this, are you ever gonna use those other slots???

Usually it will be exactly the same as having one card that occupies 2 slots. It will probably kill your PCI-E 1X but that hardly matters atm.

The only card that will be blocking PCI slots is the second SLI card, as the first one is simply above it and has nothing inbetween it, unless there is a PCI-E 1X slot.
